Approved applicants are expected to live, work and study in the nominating state or territory for 2 years on arrival.
This is a permanent visa. It lets you stay in Australia indefinitely. The visa has a travel component that expires 5 years after the date of visa grant. You become a permanent resident on the day your visa is granted.
You can only apply for this visa when you get nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency after submitting your EOI on the SkillSelect system run by the Australian government. Each state and territory agency has its own criteria for nominations. Australia has 8 states which are Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.

You might be able to get the this visa, as an overseas worker, if you:
- Be nominated by a State or Territory Government agency
- Have nominated a skilled occupation that is eligible for this subclass of visa
- Have obtained a suitable skills assessment in the nominated skilled occupation
- Be at least 18 years of age and younger than 45 years of age
- Have at least competent English language ability. (At least 6 points fo​r each of the 4 components of IELTS Academic or General Training or at least 50 points for each of the 4 components of PTE Academic)
- Meet the points test pass mark of at least 65 points
- Meet health and character requirements.

What are your chances?
You stand a better chance to get nominated and get this visa if:
- You have at least 8 years overseas working experience related to your nominated occupation. With at least 8 years, you get the maximum points on this aspect
- You manage to score high in your IELTS or PTE English tests. Whilst the minimum accepted is Competent, it gives 0 points on the points system. Only Proficient and Superior score gets you points. (Score 7 and 8 in each of the 4 components respectively).
